Sitting above the home, there is a loft space.
And in that draughty loft space things hide.
Hiding places in a hiding place,
Cupboards, boxes and cases.
There are faint memories seeping back
And they’re always there. Above the occupant’s heads.
Perhaps the people of the house put them there. Perhaps they were already there.
Strange familiars,
presences of absents.

A Body, A Silhouette, A Shadow, A Trace, A Stain.
Absence and Presence.
My current work has a strong research focus on the human memory. The way we remember people as well as the impressions and traces left behind by the people in our lives after they are gone. I have recently been specifically looking into the unheimlich (uncanny) memory. A concept that Freud discussed in his essay of the same name it involves the comfortable made uncomfortable, the familiarly strange.
