Capturing the beauty of simplicity in everyday life has always intrigued me to express those moments through a two dimensional format. Focusing on tone, shape, colour and pattern in component ways enables me to experiment with the style and composition within my collages and illustration’s through the photographs that I’ve taken. My work focuses on my experiences with the natural environment, working with collage I capture and express the scenic and peaceful ambience of being alone in nature and how my thoughts evolve from being in a specific environment. Perception is my key focus to when I’m observing, concentrating on urban and rural environments that I’ve visited and admired such as the Scottish outdoors and old towns. Both these sites are almost untouched creating a sense of vulnerability, nature growing freely and old towns that have not been touched in years leaving these places with a sense of ambiguity, never knowing how long they may last.

Robert MacFarlane has influenced me as he expresses his sights through obscene descriptive visuals on how he ventures through the great unknown. Using found and hand-made materials has allowed me to undermine an abstract illustrative approach of what I’ve experienced and seen while I’ve been at these locations. 

My purpose for this is to show how humans interact with these environment’s bounding an overflowing sense of mystery for myself and others.
